Did you know how much an ounce of gold is worth?

Historically, Do You Know How Much an Ounce of Gold Was Worth?

Gold has been a store of wealth for thousands of years, but its value in modern currencies has changed dramatically over time.

Just 26 years ago, around the year 2000, an ounce of gold was trading at approximately US$280–US$300. Today, gold is worth many times that amount.

What makes this comparison particularly interesting is that the gold itself hasn’t changed. One ounce of gold is still one ounce of gold.

What has changed is the value and purchasing power of the currency used to measure it.

This is one of the reasons investors continue to consider physical gold as a long-term store of wealth.

Rather than focusing only on the dollar price, it can be useful to look at what that ounce of gold represents in terms of purchasing power over decades.

So, here’s the question for our FirstGold readers:

Where do you think one ounce of gold could be worth another 10, 20 or even 26 years from now?
